Wednesday June 17th, 2026 from 5:30-8:30 pm- In Person at Blue Moose Art Gallery
Discover the skills and techniques used to create a successful portrait in this welcoming, step-by-step drawing class. Students will learn how to simplify the often intimidating process of drawing faces by building confidence through approachable techniques and guided instruction. Beginning with contour line drawing, the class will progress into gridding methods and value shading to help students develop accuracy, proportion, and depth in their work.
Please submit a photo to bluemooseclasses@gmail.com with the subject title "portraiture class" by June 13th.
Participants will create a portrait of their choice by submitting a reference image before class. The instructor will prepare the image in black and white and size it appropriately for the grid process. As students work through their portraits, they will gain a deeper understanding of proportion, comparison, and observational drawing techniques in a method that artists have relied on for generations.
Monday, June 22nd 2026 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm- In Person at Blue Moose Art Gallery
Students will ease into the art of contour line drawing by observing and sketching flowers brought into the classroom. This technique focuses on capturing the natural shape and flow of each subject, encouraging slow, mindful looking, almost like a quiet moment where time softens and attention deepens.
Once everyone feels comfortable, we’ll add bold finishing touches using materials like black dyed glue and ink. By the end, each artist will have a unique, finished piece. Ready to be admired, shared, or even framed as a special keepsake.
